>Mind Your Business Card

March 20, 2011 3 comments

>Just like me before, you must be wondering why the business card is a big deal for you or everyone else for that matter. Its the simplest and probably the cheapest item i know that can take you places in both the corporate and design world.whether you’re a just starting a small curio shop next to Kichwa-Tembo camp in the Maasai Mara or you’re in the midst of multimillion dollar enterprices in Hawai, there are 5 strong reasons why you should be close friends with your business card.

1.it advertises you earnestly

2.it boldly represents your style.

3.it boosts your profile a great deal and earns you tones of respect just as a great book would do to an author, not to mention

4.the client’s trust is vital to any business and a sleek professional business card has a way of persuading the client to some extent that you can be trusted.

5.its the finest summary of your investment to remind you of the world you represent.its a constant reminder of your hardwork and kind of a compliment which you sure deserve if you’re determined to work on your business just as much as you want it to work for you.

>Effective Advertisement

>The best way to reach your market and get it to accept your offer is through advertising but the problem is how to make it effective.Commercials do not care how much time or money you spend making them. They are either effective or they are not.
Thats why some things can never be overlooked while trying to come up with catchy, exciting adverts. With examples of one of the biggest telecommunication comapanies in Africa Safaricom and its main rival Airtel,i will show you how simple it can be to woe or loose your clientele with the simple yet profound tricks the small market players around the globe always overlook.

All you need to do as a marketer of your brand is simply to convince the customers that you have exactly what they need and ofcourse you have to see to your promise otherwise the customers will lose all confidence in your brand in a blink of an eye.Gaining their confidence back to help redeem your business will end up becoming even more costly than than the simple precautions you would have taken to prevent any pitfalls in the first place.
So what are some of these dynamics that help create a selling advert?Lets go have a look:

1.thought process
its very important to understand the most likely effect your advert is going to create the moment your customer sees it for the first time.how do you expect them to react and what action are you inspiring them to take after they see your commercial?
if the answer is resentment, then you have to go back to the drawing board.
if its excitement, then you are on the right track
safaricom must have known the power in this when they once came up with an idea that included an old mama performing rather strange aerobics for her age and it got everyone laughing their heads off.
That just forced everyone including me to remember it and thus should be a good advert.it brings us to our next point which is

2.simplicity
as your client,i would not bother to look for the meaning of your ad if at all its hidden because i have absolutely no reason why i would do that.remember commercials come in to intrude in a way and therefore should be simple, quick and memorable.Airtel, then zain, once had a group of youngsters jump over a perimeter wall to a side that seemed more lively in a bid to intrduce their new ‘vuka’ tarrif which is a swahili word for ‘migrate’.it was quite effective and it captured the attention of its target market

3. global or mass effect
most people are much more comfortable with what everyone thinks is right.humans are social beings and identifying with their fellow humans is only natural.
thats a great advantage to a corporate unit that is aware of this.
Safaricom has managed to hold on to a whole 80% of the market share in kenya where its based and i can attest to their appliccation of this simple technique.Their generous display of beautiful sceneries people can identify with across the country each time a new ad goes public has always made kenyans feel like they belong and the results have been tremendous.
the global touch on the other hand seeks to convince the customer to offer you their trust.it makes them feel safe with your product and that is the most powerful incentive to keep them around when your competitors are after them.
how to acheive that? make reference to something current and global like a technology,a political statement or a fashion. For instance making reference to facebook is sure to boost your chances with your client

4.creativity
you just have to be creative when it comes to advertisement. My friends and I were stralling in the city and i heard one shouting while pointing up somewhere.Itwas a large shinny ksh1 coin on a billboard with a few words on it to introduce the new sms rates by guesse which company again?Safaricom. On the other hand

>How to create a Stunning Poster in no time!

>Create a poster and give it a professional touch with 10 simple tricks listed below.posters are one of the most powerful tools of communication you can use to promote business, boost your portfolio and even bring out the artistic side of your personality.

Whether you are a designer with a long list of clients with so little time or just a hobbyist who wants to spice up his room or office, this is how to go about it.

1.open the a design software of choice,i prefer adobe photoshop but any can do

2.open a new document under file menu and specify the size to that you want the poster to be e.g A4.pick CMYK which is best for a printed poster or RGB best for web uploads.

3.play around with different backgrounds but incase you have any doubts, plain white is always the best option.Remember you are trying to work fast to beat the deadline!

4.at this stage, think of what the poster is meant to acheive.is it a college advertisement for an upcoming event?is it a wall hanging for your living room?write it down somewhere

5.ask yourself these questions and make a quick list of all the answers.
*who is the poster targeting or what kind of audience should it attract when its done?
*what do you want to tell this audience?
*what should they do after having seen your poster?
*finally, what are the words that come to mind when you think of your audience and your message to them?you can utilize google incase you are experiencing the ‘writer’s bloc’

6.import an image most relevant to your answers above or download a quality one through google and always go for the big resolution type.its pretty easy to manipulate.place the image on the top left if not sure and then enlarge it to the rest of the background by pressing Ctrl+T,then hold shift as you drag at the lower right-hand corner to the desired size.

7.Now its time for text or type.select a good one according to your test but ensure its visible enough.select a bold color for your text and ensure it contrasts well with your image if placed on the image or background if placed on the background.
Type your message using the list you wrote and make it as short as possible.remember not many people are going to waste their precious time reading your details but for a quick glance they have no choice,so take advantage of that quick glance to pass your message across!

8.move back and look at your piece of artwork from various angles.visualize it on it on a wall somewhere and make all the alterations you want in terms of color, placement of text, size of each element etc.

9.Ensure there is only one focal point to hold your audience’s attention and make it more appealing by making one element dominant using size, texture or even outstanding color.test and apply whatever works for you.design is about freedom and thats why i love it so much

10.congratulations!You are almost there but this step is really important.Show your design to a friend and ask them what they think you should improve on.you will be suprised how much you could not see on your own!remember not everybody can create a good porter but anyone will note when they come across one.

Minor differences in taste for things like color should not get you worried much however.
You can post your comments to add on anything i might have left out,let me know what you think or even ask questions. Thanks for reading.
